Edwin Forrest Lonergan, "Ed", passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on November 21, 2018, at Hospice House in Bend. He is survived by his wife Patricia; children Brian, Diana, Mark, and Teresa; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Ed's early years were spent in Boston, MA. He briefly attended St. John's Seminary on the east coast, before embarking on a cross-country venture that brought him to San Francisco, CA, where he met, and fell in love with his bride-to-be, Pat. Married for 59 years on November 8, they started a family and moved to Bend in 1969. Ed held a variety of jobs before launching what was to become a lifelong endeavor of service to the community. Known by locals as the "Bread Man," Ed started out volunteering for an ongoing ministry he later named Yeshua's Food Basket, eventually taking full responibility for the program. His Ministry would consolidate the excess food and baked goods from local grocery stores and distribute among local churches and agencies throughout Central Oregon. This work was Ed's passion for almost 30 years. When he was too weak to carry out his vocation, his army of local volunteers stepped up in his place so the people that depend on these services would not go without. His legacy of charity and generosity lives on through his loving family and church congregation, House of Covenant. Even though Ed spent over half his life on the west coast, there was rarely a week that would pass where someone wouldn't ask him, "where is your accent from?" The answer was always the same. Boston, MA. His accent, love, kindness, humor and big heart will be forever missed by those who had the honor of knowing him. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be kindly made to either:
