Driving to Alburquerque International Balloon Fiesta with some fun detours found along the way . . .
Journeyed to Pueblo, CO after work on Friday (with a stop a Cheesecake Factory) so we could get an early start over La Veta Pass Saturday morning. Nice fall colors in the Sangre D'Cristo mountains and over the pass on the way to Alamosa. We happened upon the Cumbres-Toltec train just pulling out of Antonito, CO along the way.
Next visit is to the Earthship area west of Taos, NM. We wandered around the Visitor Center but didn't need to go in as Diana knew more about it than they do as she worked building some of the Earthship homes here in the late 90's.
Saturday evening we arrive in Bernalillo, NM, about 8 miles from the Balloon Fiesta Field and where our motel is. After some dinner we go to the field to witness the "Glow".
Sunday morning brings the Mass Ascension. We love it! This is our third trip here and the weather was always a problem until this time. Perfect! - clear, calm and cold . . . We should have left the motel some earlier as we had to park very far away and set in traffic about 1 1/2 hours. Next time we'll leave by 530a :)
